Lars Gustavsson, former creative director at EA DICE, announced the launch of a new studio called TTK Games. TTK (short for Time to Kill) is focused on creating the next generation of online shooters with several former Battlefield franchise creatives at the helm.
In addition to Gustavsson, who is the CEO and creative director of TTK, the studio is co-founded by Daniel Berlin, senior design director; Vidar Nygren, CTO and technical director; and Peter Hoyles, the art director. They each previously worked at DICE on the Battlefield franchise.
In an interview with GamesBeat, Gustavsson said that the TTK founders intend to build their studio to be more flexible. “Rather than just jumping on dessert and starting to build a game, we take our time to start laying the groundwork… so that when we start to onboard people, they feel like they’re in a great company in terms of professionalism and security . but also the fun parts of being a small, nimble studio with a blank canvas to fill.”
The co-founders didn’t reveal much about the new TTK project, except to say that they are starting from scratch with a new IP. In the short term, they focus on recruiting new talent to the studio. Nygren told GamesBeat: “We all want to design something from scratch without any story we have to relate to. At DICE we ended up having leadership roles, which is great, but I joined DICE in the first place to work on a game… That’s a huge driving force for us, setting up a small studio where we can work closely with crafting. . ”
Gustavsson said in a statement: “Throughout my career, I have created games to encourage teamwork, friendly competition, and the use of your mind and reflexes to achieve an objective and outwit your opponent. We are passionate about video games, because we think that there is no better way to kill time.”
